As an american (which im not, hence the question) how did you view the underlying political commentary in this film? I felt it was the best piece of satire on America I'd seen for a long time, very subtle, very effective, very funny, but what did US viewers think of it politically? Im thinking the Rodeo sequence in particular, booing the idea that Kazakhstan is the best country in the world (it is pretty nice), but cheering the idea of Bush bathing in the blood of innocents? General discussion please!

Welcome to Red States. It didn't surprise me, and I laughed heartily. Living in a Red State, Indiana, I see the ignorance every day. It's not that they're dumb. It's that many Americans have a world view only as it relates to the US.

"They hate us for our Freedom, etc." Please.

That's how Bush has excelled in elections by pandering to that cultural-centric view. Very few US citizens have ventured outside their borders, so world view differences are not learned.

I'm also afraid the only effective result of the Civil Rights Movement is that people learned to hide their true feelings of others, but it doesn't take much to bring them out.

This is a great country, but we've got a long way to go.

First off, don't lump the south in with the rest of America. That old guy he talked to before the rodeo scene was NOT what most Americans believe.

That naked fight scene was probably the most outrageous thing I've ever seen. hilarious.

I am not from the US and I have not yet seen the movie but michelob86 makes the most sense....he is extremely realistic with his views and its not often you see that in people - especially when one is talking about their country.

no longer something. Its fiction and used stereotypes. Why are stereotypes like those used in Borat ok, yet gay or black stereotypes are seen offensive and immediately attacked as being unfaithful?
