The Patriot Act started us on the road to loss of our rights, and went so far as to gag anyone who knew about a case, including the lawyer representing you.

The Military Commissions Act of 2006 took it farther. The President and Secretary of Defense can declare anyone - including citizens of the United States - an Unlawful Combatant.

No right to trial, no lawyer, no contact with loved ones, no right to hear the charges, no right to defend yourself, no phone call, nothing. You simply disappear.

Oh - and they can torture you too.

Oh, that bothers me. Things like the un-Patriot Act, these things scare me. And it definitely scares me, now that we see that there's nothing but red-state yes men in Congress and Right-wing biased judges put there by selection in the Supreme Court, both who bend down to every whim of President Bush. We're screwed, no other way to say it.

You can't declare an American Citizen an "Alien" under the law. Only "Aliens" fall under the military tribunal elements of this law, as you know.

Why does the left have to exaggerate to try to win? They have some good plans, like the prescription drug negotiations. Ford's plan for child national health care is stellar.
