if i ask a serious question, i choose the appropriate one but if there are multiple good answers, i put it into vote so other can judge it. but before i do that, i give them good rating to appreciate their effort and honest opinion.
even i don't pick "silly" answers, i thank everyone who participate, to show respect and appreciation that they take time to answer my question.
plus, i don't ask question that i'm not interested at that moment. usually, i write down variety of questions and i will choose from the topic i'm favorable to. it didn't just come out of no where...
i don't check their own best answer percentage wise, i use my own preference. so for picking up the best, i always choose the intelligent one, unless they are several of them, that is very hard to decide.

I choose my best answers depending on what the question was about. If it was a serious question I would choose the answer with the most knowledgeable information. If the question seems a bit on the joking side of things then the one with the most humor in it. I don't think it would be fair to just pick a best answer just because the person has a low quota. I also take time to look at each answer and see who was the most thoughtful and really seemed like they care by taking the time to answer the question. so I would take a few things in consideration before I would pick a best answer.

I choose the ones which give the answer that I need for the question I ask. Sometimes I give best answer to the ones which seem sweet and nice. Cause a lot of people act like a know-it-all and others are plain rude :-/

If I don't like any of the answers, I would just delete my question
If there's a bunch of answers and some funny ones, I would choose the funniest.
If there's people who took the time to answer their question and put some thought into it, without attacking me, then they win best answers.

I go for the quick mind...sometimes the most sincere try...andi can spot a fake, someone stroking me, or trying to, saying what they think I want to hear a mile away....it is actually predicated upon the question......never on points. Mostly sincerity. I overlook typos...... someone else can supply me with links up the wazooooooo but it is the person speaking from their heart who makes me think and i FEEL that a whole lot more that anything else...and THAT is worth a thousand links.

I let the my fumiko or my roommate or my boyfriend write which one they decide and If I agree I choose that person other wise I put them all with a letter or number and I draw it out of a hat. If one person's answered my question they automaticly get it.

Mostly I try to select what's the most useful to what I was asking
Sometimes I let the voters choose if I can't decide which is best or too close to say.

I always choose based on good information and politeness. Sometimes when all the answers are good, I just pick one that seemed the nicest.
