I don't want to vote but my mom's making me. I think all the people that are running are being stupid (they're also confusing me with their crazy attack ads) and focusing on their opponents more than the real issues. What do you know, already a cynic and it's my first time at the polls!

i have read alot of the candidates propaganda, and have been online. Most of them are just talking crap to get themselves in office. If only there were more people I liked...that's the problem. I already know what they're up to, and I don't like it--I wouldn't go tell someone to do something that I hadn't done.

I vote in every election, already voted today. There is a quote by William E. Simon that sums it up nicely: “Bad politicians are sent to Washington by good people who don't vote.”
You're right about all the ads, I'm fed up with them and so are most of the people I know. But unfortunately a lot of people do pay attention to them and base their vote on the attack ads(which are full of half truths, and sometimes out right lies) The smart thing to do is watch the debates and research the candidates on your own. It's so easy to do now, hop on their website and you can find a link of their views on all the major topics, and if it's an incumbent I always check their voting record to make sure they are actually following through with what they claim.
I don't think it's right that your mom's making you vote, but you really should, too many people don't. As Bill Vaughn said, “A citizen of America will cross the ocean to fight for democracy but won't cross the street to vote in a national election”

Look beyond the ads - look for some of the Voter's Guides or analyses put out by third parties and look at the stand of the candidates on the issues.

"Not voting" is not the solution to the problem of bad candidates.

I have voted in every election since I registered to vote when I wa 17 years old. I always vote because I am heavily interested (and active) in politics. I want to help change this country for the better.

I am registered in County A. I moved to county B, forgot to re-register until the deadline passed. Called the state house to find out what to do, found out that I cannot legally vote because I don't live in county A, and am not registered in county B. :(
