the discount is 25% i.e. 25% off the shop price
so the discounted price is 75% of the shop price
1% of the shop price is $34.95/100 = $0.3495
therefore
75% of the shop price is 75 times 1%
75 * $0.3495 = $26.2125
the clerk's error was $26.2125 -24.50 = $1.7125
so choice b. is the nearest approximation to the error
