The only time snowboarding is more difficult than skiing is the first few days. The first day on skiis you can at least stand up and shuffle your feet around like you're walking, whereas the first few times on a snowboard can be a little rough. After the initial shock, snowboarding is much easier than skiing. It takes a few dedicated years of skiing to get to a point where beginning snowboarders are after half a season.

I am learning to board,i can ski to an advanced level.I would say skiing is alot harder to advance but i`d also say you are more likely to have a acident whilst learning to board......just like i did yesturday on a dry slope.I broke 2 fingers.Little tip if you use a dry slope...wear mittens because when i fell over yesturday i put my hands down and my fingers went under the dendex breaking them!!! and i had mittens on it would not have happened.
Anyway good luck with whatever you choose.
ps i much prefer the snowboarding stance to the skiing one.

I am a qualified instructor in both..
I will have to say that boarding is easier to get to a satisfactory level than skiing, mainly because you only have one piece of contact with the snow to worry about rather than two.
Get proper tuition when you first start and make sure you buy some wrist protectors as they are the most common form of injuries..
Have a wicked time, try getting a few lessons over here first (if you live in the U.K. may I suggest that you go to Tamworth snowdome!)

Skiing is easier to learn, but harder to master. Snowboarding is harder to learn, but easier to master.
So, which one is really easier? That's entirely up to the individual...
I found snowboarding more to my taste, so I stayed with it :)

Ski-ing is always easier as you have two points of contact on the snow.
