people that traveled by dog sled would often bunk down for the night in the cold and sleep with their dogs to keep warm. If it was really cold, it would take three dogs to keep a person warm.

Don't get one. the more you nag the longer it will be until you get one, if ever. You can't just show responsibility a little bit and expect that to happen. ultimately it's going to fall onto them and they know it so they are not going to get a dog until they feel like taking proper care of it. sure you'll walk it after school (when you feel like it, when your friends don't want to hang out and play) but who is going to feed it, water it, take it out etc during the day? how about at night? It's not just fun and games, animal ARE a lot of work. And i know this for a fact, especially puppies and younger dogs.

All of the folks are right about it meaning it's so cold that it takes three dogs to warm your bed. It's an Australian slang term.

I think this refers to a very cold night when you need to bring three dogs in to share body heat during the night.

This is just hearsay, but I've always heard that it means it's cold enough that if you live in the country you need three dogs in bed with you to be warm enough to sleep.

It means it is so darn cold you need three dogs in bed with you to keep you warm-thats my take on it--I have experienced these in northeast Ohio
