If you listened to half the non-sense passing as serious scholarship in American universities sociology departments, you would be appalled. They blame white men for everything bad and say that whites hold all the power. What about the NBA? You can't say there's any "white male hegemony" there.

On the contrary, white males are the only group that remains (other than drug users of all stripes) completely open to insult. Have you seen all the dumb white guy - cool, witty black guy commercials as of late? As far as I know, in reality, by and large it is the inverse. Of course, in todays culture, black guys need an IQ of no more than 85 to be cool. Look at rap.
Why do white males keep taking this? We created this beautiful, technologically advanced civilization. If it were not for "white male hegemony" we'd still be running around in loincloths chucking spears at antelope. Rather be in a white man hegemony than a non-white/matriarchal society.

Wow! This is truly one of the most myopic things I've read over the last few days. If the presence of an American white male hegemony is not self-evident to you, you must be living in a box. How many black, brown, and female presidents have we had? Why is it 2006 and we're only just now on the verge of a female Speaker of the House? Why are black men locked up for crimes that white men get probation for? Why do women get paid 30% less than their male counterparts?
The NBA? Give me a break. If you think sports and real political power are the same thing you're not getting much out of your high dollar education. You might try listening to your professors for a change.

Do you fully understand the idea of hegemony? If you did, you would see that this is true. Hegemony is classically defined as the "preponderant influence or authority over others; or the social, cultural, ideological, or economic influence exerted by a dominant group."
And about the NBA, many teams are owned by white people or corporations controlled by white people. Many record labels are controlled by white people. Almost all of corporation is controlled by some white guy.
If you can't see that white population is hegemonic, then you, my friend, are seriously blind to the truth, and are fooling yourself.
I myself am white and know this.
