They havent linked anything in household cleaners to fetal development issues. Although most doctors will advise you for safety's sake to avoid all chemical cleaners until you're into your second trimester.
Use vinegar and baking soda and dawn dishsoap, and lemon rind in place of chemicals
If you cant do that, clean less, ALWAYS wear gloves (you absorb things through your skin and share them with baby) and keep it all well ventilated.

The only thing that I think you really need to stay away from is the litter box. You can contract Toxoplasmosis and pass it on to your baby. My husband ended up with this because my mother-in-law cleaned a litter box while she was pregnant. My husband has been blind in his left eye since birth. He had several surgeries on his eye when he was young and nothing has helped. He has seen several specialists since then and there is simply nothing that can be done since it is his retina that is damaged.
My OB said that I would be fine using household cleaners, but that he would back me up if I wanted to tell my husband that I shouldn't be around the chemicals. LOL Luckily, my husband did most of the cleaning while I was pregnant - not up to my standards, but that was okay.

I'm a mother of 4. While I was pregnant I stayed away from Ammonia, it's really strong. The other cleaners are pretty mild, but to be safe, I made sure ALL windows were open to vent out any strong chemicals. However, if it's too cold in your side of the world, try finding someone that sells Melaleuca. I just enrolled in their preferred buyer membership (think Costco and Sams Club), their products are supposed to be safe to use with no harsh chemicals. Safer to have around children.
