Does anyone else think the officiating is getting out of hand? Peyton can step forward from shotgun to make an audible but Andrew Walters can't? (btw, not a raider fan, but having it been a muffed snap SEA woulda had the ball really close) And SUN night Troy Brown "taunting"? I like how John and Al said "he's a veteran and should know better, but let's take a look......ok...where is it..?" If those refs think he was honestly throwing the ball in his face (despite a gentle toss) they are HIGH. And, this may be bias since I'm a chargers fan, but there was a ton of bullshit calls there too. And I am positive (not imagining things) that the ref had a sour face when he had to make a call against CLE, but looked more positive when it was on us?!

Refs need to be paid to only be refs (that's their only job)-and while that may sound weird after what I said, they then need to be trained better and re-checked ALOT. .....rant over

it was pretty bad, but there were some things that could atleast be debated. they showed troy brown and he wasn't taunting.......

another thing is when they call the wrong number for the penaly, which is normally not so bad, but when the # they called is nowhere near (on the field) they guy who committed the penalty, or worse, when there's no one on the field with a similar number (in the Bolts game, they called it on 40sumthin, when it was debatable whether drayton florence #29 did anything ----it just shows how little they're actually paying attention).

oh yeah, I totally forgot about the Jets game --what's really bad, is on NFLTA, they had the VP of officiating on and he said that it was a bad call.

The false start call made no sense. A false start is only supposed to be called when a player comes out of their set position, and I don't think that "set" position applies to a QB unless he starts moving while his hands are under center.

In general, I think the level of officiating has been getting lower and lower. The Troy Brown call was very shaky, but not as bad as some others I've seen. There are two that have made me really wonder what's going on this year:

1) Bengals-Bucs - During the Bucs' winning drive, Justin Smith sacks Gradkowski by dragging him down. He's flagged for unnecessary roughness for what the official referred to as driving his head into the ground. I'm not sure how he's supposed to tackle him, but anyway it's a terrible call. The Bucs win on another questionable call, Clayton's touchdown catch.

2) Jets-Browns - The Jets seem to have tied the game on a TD catch at the end of the game by Chris Baker, only to have it ruled out of bounds. The replays show very clearly that he was going to come down easily in bounds if Brodney Pool hadn't knocked him out while in the air. But it's not a challengable call, and the official's horrible judgment costs the Jets a chance.

There's more and more of this every week. I'm not sure what the solution is, but they need to work more with these officials. Football is a great game, but it's being hurt pretty badly by the officiating right now.

I have to agree on some of the calls. Especially the roughing the passer calls. I mean, it's one thing if you are trying to take the QB out of the game with a malicious hit, but my god, it seems like you can't even tackle the QB anymore without drawing a flag. I saw a few calls during the Washington/Dallas game that I thought if the game were at Dallas, it would've been a no-call. A Cowboy tackled one of the Redskins players by his helmet, but he didn't touch his face mask. In my book tackling is tackling. I understand the horse-collar rule, but it wasn't a horse collar tackle. The facemask at the end of the game should have been an incidental 5-yard facemask instead of the 15-yarder. He didn't pull Sean Taylor down by his face mask, and he didn't spin him all the way around. Did his head move, of course. If someone grabs your facemask your head will move. That was a cheap call also. Games shouldn't be decided by penalties.

I agree totally. Officiating has been terrible in all the games, and the refs basically handed the Colts first downs on crucial plays (the colts suck, by the way. They rigged that game).

I hope you were just as upset about the refs at the last Super Bowl.
