We've had both. Currently we have an artificial. It's safer than a live or cut tree, as it does not dry out. Artificial is generally better for families that have a busy lifestyle. But I personally like the smell the live and cut trees emit through your house.

My husband and I have compromised on whether to get an artificial Christmas tree or a natural Christmas tree. I grew up with only artificial trees and he grew up with only natural trees. We ended up compromising every other year. Last year we put up the artificial tree, so this year we will be going out to get a real tree. It's nice because we don't have to worry about taking care of a real tree every single year, but we still will have family memories of cutting down our own and having that fresh cut Christmas tree smell.

Many go with artifical trees so that a living tree isn't harmed. But most Christmas trees are grown in tree farms especially for this purpose, so it's not any different from buying and eating corn. The more practical reason is that artificial trees don't die and leave a mess, and you can use it more than once.

I prefer natural, but use artificial.

Naturals are a lot of upkeep during the entire time they are up. I just don't feel like climbing under the tree to give it water. But you can't beat the smell. However, I don't think they smell as good as they did while I was growing up. they are a lot of $$$ for something you won't use again.

Some artificial ones look real, and they make a spray that smells natural. But the really nice ones are $$$$.

In the end, it will be your pro and cons that count. Not mine.

I have an artificial, they look just as pretty and are easy to take care of, besides it saves you money later on. However, if you don't have a lot of room to keep on for storage then it's not a good idea. Alot of people do natural because its a tradition for them to go get one together as a family. You don't have to water an artificial though.

Artificials don't leave all the pines things everywhere. you can get and artificial one and some places have candels that smell like christmas trees. get one of those and light it and then you wont even be able to tell the difference

There are good and bad points of each; natural ones, while they give a great piney smell which I have come to associate with Christmas, are very heavy to lug onto the car and into the house, and leave needles all over the joint, while artificial ones,. while portable, and handy, just don't have that feel of tradition for me. I guess it depends on what is important to you.

I've used an artificial for years since I'm allergic to the real ones and can't keep the needles cleaned up anyway. If you want the pine sent use a pine scented resunit

Hmm, the natural ones are more readily available, and if you happen to be quick and stealthy, "free", as well. It is true, that the the are quite pricey- 50 euros or so for a decent one, and they shed the whole time you have them, however... It's Christmas after all, and when are you going to spend money if not during Christmas? :D

There is nothing like the scent of a real tree. But fake ones are far easier to deal with.
