LOL. Its a few years since I watched it (my "kids" are 18 and 21 now!) but what with teaching kids about the ways of the world early it would not surprise me :D

...this is what I found on Wikipedia: Ernie and Bert share an apartment in the basement of 123 Sesame Street. Although they sleep in separate beds, this has led to the occasional suggestion that they are representations of gay lovers. This is denied by Sesame Workshop, the corporation that owns the show and the characters, but the idea is sufficiently widespread that it has been used as the basis of jokes by comedians or other TV shows. In an early episode of Saturday Night Live, in Chevy Chase's "Weekend Update" news satire segment, a picture of Bert and Ernie was displayed, and Chevy read from his script that "Bert and Ernie confirmed this week that they are practicing homosexuals." Whether this SNL joke was the source of this rumor, or was merely a reference to the rumor, is unclear.

Well Bert and Ernie were created in the 60s when the word gay still meant happy, so Ernie is but Burt isn't. And the do not share a bed they have separate beds.
I don't know, was the Odd Couples' Felix and Oscar gay? They lived together also. Does living with someone who is the same sex as you automatically make you gay? Because if it does then I was gay about ten years ago with my girlfriend, but don't tell my husband...

No mention has ever been made of them being gay on the show. It is just some twisted minds that have changed, what is supposed to be an innocent children's show, into something more twisted. While watching the show while growing up, the thought never crossed my mind that something weird was going on. Why can't two men live together without being called gay?

They are puppets in a programme for the under fives, they have NO sexuality, trust me. Also, despite the names coming from the taxi driver and the police man in "It's a wonderful life" they are based on Felix Unger and Oscar Madison (out of "the odd couple") who ended up staying together because of Felix's divorce. From a woman. So no, they are not gay.
Would you really care if they were? Be honest.

thay are puppets on a children's show. I don't think they have a defined sexuality.
They share a bedroom, but not a bed. Would you consider two college roommates sharing a dorm room gay?

Yes, yes they are. Sesame street wanted to subtlely suggest that it is in fact all right to be gay.
