now that i'm in my mid-20s, i'm starting to get really bored with those gay club bunnies, whose lives revolve around madonna, hooking up and taking their lycra tops off in clubs. where can you go, though, if you still want to meet gay guys, but gay guys who still want to go out, have more grown-up interests (literature, theatre etc.), find stimulating conversation exciting and who don't just come alive on friday evening. i've discovered to my utter dismay (hadn't realised before) that all the scene is about is sex. any places/organisations/clubs anyone can suggest?

have you tried the on line chats or cultural events , maybe even the grocery store it does work. and it is still a social open environment where you can be safe and aware of your surroundings.

My best advice is don't look so hard. You may well meet gay men in your own daily existence, but just be blind to the subtler signs. As I know nothing about you I couldn't give any specific advice on organisations, etc. Besides the Internet is littered with them, easy enough to find. What I would say, from personal experience is make meeting a man as much a part of your everyday life as possible. I guess what I'm trying to say use your own interests ahd hobbies as a means of meeting like-minded people and maybe more.......

Well, it depends a lot on where you are.

I'm in a smaller Midwestern town. We have a gay and lesbian community center. The center itself sponsors events at least a couple times a month. It is also a great place to network and find out what else is going on.

Even in this smaller town there are groups for guys involved in sports, gourmets, there are a couple of different groups that go out to eat together in different restaurants, there's a gay bowling league, we have 3 different gay churches.....and on and on.

In larger towns there is a lot more going on, in smaller towns not as much.

Good luck, and congratulations of maturing so early....it is sad to see guys in their 30's and older (sometimes much older) still trapped in the hideous bar scene.

Well if you enjoy an event go to it. If you like theater, plays go to them and meet men there. You can start through smaller get together at your home3-4 and ask them all to bring a new friend. That way you get old friends and new ones too. In an enviroment you enjoy.

You can try Myspace or Yahoo 360 and go out and find those who blog and chat. Try online chat line or dating sites. If nothing else go to a nice church that accepts gays. Good wholesome men there.

Have you tried Yahoo Groups? Do a search for gay men in your area. Where I live there is a very active group of lesbians that get together monthly, if not more, for outtings and family events. We stay in contact in between times through our email group. It's great!

Have a troll round your local pubs. Half the blokes in them are only waiting the chance to get "helped" out of the closet because they haven't got the guts to go to a real gay bar!

You can look for community listings in local LGBT media, or online. There are often groups dedicated to specific interestes such as film/theatre, hiking etc...

Gaydar (www.gaydar.co.uk) is not just about sex. Check it out.
In my experience around half the guys on there are not interested purely in sex. Which is a bummer for me, but would be good for me.
