It's not gay. It's called masturbation, and it's perfectly normal. Many men and women both masturbate. It's healthy. I find that guys typically masturbate with their penis, but anal masturbation is not uncommon either. And yes, you would probably want lube. I hear that Vaseline works well, although, being a girl, I don't find that I need lube very often.
