I didn't mention anything about my termination on the application, but when I took the assessment online I was asked whether I was fired because of performance and the # of times. I'm starting to wonder if this might be one of the reasons I did not get interviewed, at least, from the company.

I'm feeling like I made a mistake for being honest after receiving an email from the company, thanking me for applying and that their hiring process is highly competitive...etc...I was not interviewed at all or given a chance to be interviewed.

I would not have given any answer. Most all firing is subjective when it comes to performance unless they have the job VERY described.

Legally, in the US, they can only give the dates of employment and the rate you were making. Anything beyond that is subjective. If you can, have a friend call the previous employer and say they are thinking of hiring you.."can you tell me about them?"...and see what they say. If they say anything! ANYTHING bad or derogatory...call 'em up or write them a letter and tell them you understand this is what they presented to an employer that called for references and tell them...if they do that again, you can and will sue...that might just shut them up...if not, many lawyers would be glad to talk to you!!!

I would not discuss my termination of any job unless I was in an interview face-to-face.

Unfortunately, the nature of employment and applying for jobs forces people to lie. Also unfortunately, those that habitually lie seem to be the ones that rise to become managers. The words honesty, team work, and work smarter not harder, are terms that sociopathic managers use to control the sheep that they hire to do their bidding.

To make a long story short, telling the truth about previous terminations will only prevent you from getting hired. The game is to figure out what the employer wants to hear, and provide that to them. The game is not about being honest.

Anyone can lie about anything. However you must be prepared to get bitten on your backside, at some time when you least expect it, or want it. Many people have put in several years with a company, and then it was discovered that they had lied on the employment application, and they were immediately fired. It really comes down to you choosing if it is worth it.

I doubt it is...but that is personal information you don't have to divulge ...and I think it is against your rights to have to tell a prospective employer that you did. Just in future say it was for medical treatment.
