British Kings I'm assuming and I suspect you mean King Edward VIII who abdicated so he could marry American divorcee Wallis Simpson in Dec 1936.

A few years ago, Queen Beatrix of Netherland's younger son abdicated his line for the throne to marry a common woman. But that is probably not what you are looking for because he is a prince and not a king.

Usually we say 'commoner' rather than 'common woman' which suggests vulgarity.

The objection to his marriage to Mrs Simpson was that she was a divorcee, not her birth (ie she was not 'blue blooded').

Any books in the library where you live?
I'm sure there have been several published; probably with the "American" version as well as the true account.
