When you stop standing strong and fast, then you allow an opening for others to take advantage of to try to bring you down. If you never give way, then that opening never exists, so no opportunity arises for them.
Also, if people have been living under a tight regime and feel oppressed, then they are more than likely to take advantage of any opportunity to take down the regime when an opening presents itself.

Do you have to ? Can't you alter the idea a bit ? Okay, here's a theory.....
A revolution is an uprising that is against the current regime in power. If the current regime in power was totalitarian, it would squash any force that opposes it. If the are some democratic tendencies in the current regime, then an opposing opinion could organize itself into a physical force that can physically overthrow the current system.

Contrary to millionario's post, it is in fact when a people who have been oppressed begin to feel less so that revolutions occur. If one looks at the history of revolutions, that is exactly what one finds. Do you think the French Revolution could have occurred under a man like Louis XIV, who ruled with an iron hand? No, it occurred under Louis XVI, a weak ruler who had already made some concessions to the nobility before the Revolution exploded.
Or take the relatively bloodless revolution that brought down the Soviet Union. If people revolt because of utter repression, then the Russians would have risen up against Stalin. But Stalin so ruthlessly repressed anything that even smacked of dissent that no one dared raise their voice against him. It was only during the time of Gorbachev, who advocated reform and a loosening of control that people could feel confident enough to rise up.
The situation is somewhat akin to a boiler under pressure. As long as the boiler's walls remain unyielding, the pressure is contained. But if a weakness occurs that allows the steam to begin to escape, it is then that the catastrophic explosion occurs.

Hannah Arendt understood revolution as taking place in the face of utter opression. A regime gives way to a revolutionary process when it holds a firm grip on its affairs with no possibility for dissenting voices to be heard or give their input. This is one of the reasons why, historically, revolutions flourish in the midst of dictatorships.

When the current government, or group in control, shows some sign of weakness--maybe bickering or infighting, or severe illness among the leader, or other bad news that makes them open to attack--then the people being held down by this government will rise up and take power forcibly to restore order or a leadership that they agree with.

That the control is tight by the regime in power, any lessening of that grip will be perceived as weakness by the masses and they will revolt.

Hope.
Revolution is most likely to take place when a prolonged period of rising expectations and rising gratifications is followed by a short period of sharp reversal.
A similar mechanism applies in suicide attempts; while depressed, people do not have the energy to attempt to kill themselves, when strength starts to return they have more energy.
