It was released in the mid to late 80's and it was really dark and creepy. It was about a family trapped on a planet and the only bit I can remember properly was the end when the bad guy had betrayed them tried to sacrifice the father/hero in a burning fire in a cave in order for him to escape the planet. There were trapped souls covering the walls all screaming. The bad guy couldn't do it, so knocked the hero out of the way and his soul was ripped out instead. If any of this makes sense to anyone, can you tell me the name of it as it's been driving me mad. Can anyone help?

Sounds like a film I saw of Space Family Robinson/Lost in Space but it wasn't a cartoon. They met a bloke living by himself in an air bubble protected area - but it was really the youngest son in the future. When it came to leave the planet it caused problems because there were two versions of the same person and so, as far as I can remember, the father was going to sacrifice himself and stay behind for the sake of his son. But then the elder version of that son fell into an infeno that opened up in the middle of his hut. So the family flew away together.
