My husband has ankle arthritis. He saw his consultant last week and he told him that he would only be in hospital for 1 day . He said that he would put a rod up his leg and screws in his feet but he would not have a plaster cast because of the way the operation was done. I have searched the web but I cant see anything like this. Hope you can help with this one. cheers.

Can you explain abit more and i will explain to you.Well yes this sort off surgery your husband is having does not require a plaster cast at all,as the bones are being stablized with metal rods and pins.So having a cast will defeat the object,as hes consultant will want your husband to mobilized as soon as possible,a cast will make progress alot longer and pointless. The pins normally stay in for a long time depending on infections or problems he may have later on with the metal work, alot off people do generally get on ok with the metal work.Well good luck to your husband.
