Technically when you get pregnant they count from the date of your last period but when you have the ultrasound you may be smaller or larger so they subtract or add based on the size of the baby. For instance I had my first ultrasound yesterday and I was 12 weeks from my last period, August 14, so I was 12 weeks into my pregnancy but according to the ultrasound my baby is only at 11 weeks in size. I ovulate late in my cycle so that makes sense. I hope that helps you. I know it is confusing.

Yes it does include the two weeks you weren't really pregnant yet. My doctor also measures the baby to come up with a correct due date and it always includes the time before conception. Good luck.

P.S. It made sense to me so hopefully nobody rude says it doesn't. If they do they are just a little slow. LOL

From now on everything will be counted from LMP instead of gestational age. A baby measuring 9 weeks is 9 weeks from LMP not 9 weeks from conception since no one really knows when that happened. You are going to be pregnant for roughly 40 weeks. As of the date of your ultrasound you had 31 left to go...look at it that way. It is confusing, certainly but you have to sort of forget about the 2 weeks you weren't technically pregnant because you were 'kinda' pregnant :)

I *think* it means the baby was measuring 9 weeks from your last menstrual period which includes the 2 or so weeks BEFORE the egg was fertilized. That's why when a woman finds out she is pregnant, usually at 4 weeks, it means the embryo was fertilized around 2 weeks after the beginning of your menstrual cycle. So your baby is 9 weeks old, but technically it's only been in existence for about 7 weeks. Hope I didn't confuse you :)

No. You probably got pregnant exactly 7 weeks ago. They absolutly DO include the two weeks...it is measured since your last period. (Well you know what i mean...the measurement includes the two weeks since your last period.) I was told that this is becaue technically your body starts preparing for a baby immediatly after your period so it is more accurate for them to measure from there. Even if you don't have cells+egg yet, your uterus and stuff are still in the right place for ovulation starting about the first day of your period...

It does make sense, and I hate to tell you, but I really don't know. I don't know if it includes the 2 weeks or not - either way your doctor should have given you a due date from that. And remember...due dates are not exactly the day your baby will be born. Good luck! :)

My doctor explained it as being from the conception date and based on the size...but made it clear that it was an educated guess and that the date could be off by as much as two weeks either way. I am 'due' January 12 according to the sonogram, so my baby could actually be due anywhere from Dec 28 to Jan 24.

by the ultrasound they measure the size of the baby in your belly and compare it to what it should be at what week...so that will be conception..the docs will usually use the LMP date for your due date if its not different but if so they they will change your EDD to you being at 9 weeks now...if that makes sense

I think they factor that in when they give you the measurement. My Dr. told me the baby was 8 wks 3 days and that matched up to when I thougth I conceived. So you can probably go calculate your due date based on those estimates.

Congrats and good luck!

Date of potential conception, as he is only going by growth size and that can vary
