Tough to accuratly address your question without getting more information.
First off, have you visited the Apple site for any support?
It isn't the best place, but its a start.
Secondly, is there an Apple store near you to get some help?
Lastly, depending on the age of the iMac, you will need to get start-up software (the operating system - "OS", either on CD or DVD...and that depends if the iMac has a DVD drive).
You'll have to reboot the iMac from the OS disc and do a clean install...erasing all previous stuff on the computer.
Where to get an OS disc?
Check with eBay...lots of stuff there for Mac folks.
Good luck!

Try getting "The little Mac Book" It will give you a lot of information and you can get them pretty inexpensive, try eBay. Most of the older imacs didn't come with a manual or software but the operating system. It is pretty much plug and play. You are welcome to IM me if you like with any questions and I can help.

You can download a pdf manual from here for your brother's iMac.

As for software, check in his applications folder, on the Finder menu click on Go then Applications. I suggest he gets the install dvds for his iMac, they include bundled software that he can install if he wants them. Call Apple to get the right ones. Good luck :-)
