since 9-11 a huge part of the GOP's message has been: "be afraid, a terrorist could pop out from anywhere and kill you"

the democrats seem to take a more rational approach and although they talk about police action for terrorists, do not seem to be so reactionary.

is it that conservatives are just more emotional and less rational, more inclined to fight because they are more xenophobic, or just less able to resolve issues?

note: just watch the furious and irrational reactions to even asking such a question. this will be my exhibit A

also what takes courage is being able to clear your head of bias towards your own nation and consider -- just consider -- that yes, America played a part in 9-11. This notion has a label in 2006: bleeding heart liberal. A couple thousand years ago it was a respected line in a famous book. see Matt 7:5.

It takes courage to admit you've made a mistake and to change course. Bush is incapable of doing this. Do the followers lack courage? Not necessarily, but they've had fear instilled in them by their leaders and through their special right wing propaganda media.

Conservatives who react angrily are often those who've been informed by angry right wing talk radio and TV, and little else.

Actually, I am not furious or irrational. I pity you for your lack of understanding and your narrowmindedness.

I am conservative, and I am not afraid. I was half mile from the Pentagon on 9/11 and my liberal mother was the one who freaked out and insisted that my family move back to Wisconsin, where I grew up. But we did not. We still live in Northern Virginia and I still work right near the Pentagon.

Our cousin died in the World Trade Center. His family did not leave NY either.

The conservatives want to fight the terrorists, the liberals blame America for making them angry, as if to say that the attacks on our country were somehow our own fault. That is what is cowardly, in my opinion.

Our nephew served in Iraq - he is certainly no coward.

Conservatives mostly want caution but assertiveness in fighting the terrorists. Liberals mostly seem to want appeasement.

Just my opinion.

Get out and vote, regardless of your opinions. Make your voice heard.

I think the Republicans lack direction more than anything. They've forgotten about bread-and-butter issues that cannot be ignored. The battle against Islamic extremists isn't going to be won overnight. In the meantime, we need to remember that people still need jobs, healthcare, and safe housing. We can't forget that alQaeda isn't the only threat - MS13 is a bigger problem in a lot of communities.

Frankly - neither party makes much sense to me. Kerry kept saying "I have a plan" but he never told anyone what it was. Yeah - right. Bush says he has a plan to get out of Iraq, but he won't tell us what it is.

I don't think either one of them really ever had a plan.

I think the Republicans blindly follow Bush's lead, so it is not that they lack courage but they don't think for themselves. The dubious "terror alert" is just a ploy to keep Americans frightened enough to think they need to keep the Republicans in office. But ya' know, I don't think all of the troops fighting in Iraq are Republican!
