I think the very skinny stars portray an unhealthy image that encorouages eating disorders in the young and impressionable but I don't think they do it on purpose. I think the best thing they could do to help is not to look like they're celebrating their skinniness so much. Comments made by the likes of Posh saying that she's naturally skinny after having kids is bull as are comments like Keira Knightly saying she knows she's built like a boy and there's nothing she can do about it. EAT! Well eat more and see how your body changes woman!

I'll stop now as I do rant about this a bit too much whenever a question comes up about it. It just makes me mad.

Yes. Very much so. And most of these celebrities are not cute with their boney selves. It isn't realistic. They have a lot of influence on the public. Many actually buy into the idea that thin is in. Why can't the media promote a healthy body weight, and staying fit for healthy living? Kirsty Alley was on Oprah yesterday. She looks great. I hope she doesn't try to lose more weight. She looks a natural woman. Curves and all.

No, but I think that the media does. These celebrities are victims of all the hype just like the girls are that look up to them. Ladies like Kirstie Alley and Queen Latifah are just starting to step to the forefront and say that it's ok to be a curvy girl. More will follow and then the skinny thing will be just another fad.

While I think alot of them HAVE eating disorders I don't think they deliberately ENCOURAGE it. They all swear up and down that they DON'T have eating disorders but if they freely talked about vomiting, starving, or pill popping to stay skinny I would say they encouraged it then.

Simply yes because they participate in this thin body craze.
If they stood firm and said no then tides may slowly turn,
Ava Gardner, Marilyn Monroe, Brigitte Bardot, Sofia Lauren, Raquel Welch and many many more would never have made it today for this reason only.

TOTALLY!
all we see in magazines or on the telly is these skinny women who have got it all so many young girls want to look like them.
Maybe on factor is they are always under pressure from being in the limelight, but if they didnt want this why go into that type of industry? You dont exactly do it if you dont want to be famous.
Nicole Richie is a size zero - I didnt even think that existed! Imagine what that looks like?!

i dont think they encourage them, eating disorders stem from someting, problems within the person and it just comes out in the way it does, i think it is very easy to put the blame on people in the public eye

Not publicly, but it's like an unwritten rule everybody knows thin is in. It's a shame society is that way.
