I am in Ontario Canada. My old landlord just mailed me a bill for repairs he said I caused. I had offered to paint and clean before I moved and they declined. Now they are saying they had to paint, clean, replace blinds because of damage. I moved on a Friday and the new tenant was in on the Saturday and they billed me for 38 hours of painting? My boss co-signed and they threatened to sue him if I didn't pay. Who can I call? I don't want to loose my job. My boss is mad but I can't afford to pay these guys of neither. What can I do?

I did pay a deposit and I had to fight for the interest they owed me. I found out its law here that the tenant gets interest on deposits. I have contacted free legal services. My boss understands now after the initial shock these are unwarranted charges and he too wants to fight them. Receipts have been requested in the meantime. Thanks for all the good advice. Hard to pick the best.

Consult with a lawyer. You are not entitled to pay for the normal wear and tear of the house. Paint is somewhat wear and tear.

Some people try to take advantage of the fact that tenants don't know better. Their procedure might even be wrong and unlawful.

Technically you were supposed to leave the apartment broom clean before you moved out. Call a lawyer and advise them what's going on. They might just be checking to see if you'll pay it but don't.

They will almost always do this to people. All you have to do is push back. Remind them that they agreed you did not need to clean or paint. If they dispute that, ask for receipts. If they can't produce, tell them that you will be pursuing legal action against them and reporting their attempt at fraud to the police (as it is impossible for 38 hours of painting to take place in that time period and what apartment needs 38 hours of painting?) If they still push, speak with the company they claim did the painting and find out from the painters themselves what was done. Be sure to put your requests in writing and keep copies and names of people you talk to and when.

definite it would look honest yet until eventually now you rented the apartment there replaced into basically one individual. secondly, u have not have been given any hire, ur residing there month to month. so if she notifiies you 30 days in improve of the lease improve, shes allowed to cost u greater. being have not have been given any hire u don't have greater than a number of risk-free practices from the lease will improve or surprising evictions. besure to have a sturdy relationship with ur landlord so she wont shop elevating the lease.

Yes, but ask for receipts to make sure that's where the money is going. That's the rule in the US, but 9times out of 10 when asked for a receipt they will not charge.

Did you pay a deposit ? If so that is what that is for. If you moved out one day and someone else moved in, he must of really been a fast painter to get someone to move in that quick.
