it basically means that if there is two qualified people trying for a new job but one is white and the other is not(black, hispanic...)the one that is not white will get it.
i'm against it. if there two qualified people then first come first served. or who has more experience.

Affirmative action was started in the late 60s early 70s and I thought it was a good idea at the time. I saw it as a temporary measure designed to give minorities and women a helping hand to try to even out the previous discrimination. As it has gone on through the years, I have changed my mind. First, I feel it has weakened government where it is extensively applied. Some requirements for jobs have reasons, such as that a firefighter should be big enough and strong enough to carry a person over their shoulder, down a ladder and out of a burning building. They waived requirements like this for women to allow them to get these jobs, but if you are in a burning building and you weigh 200 lbs and the fireman trying to rescue you is 115 lbs you have a problem. Many reasonable requirements for jobs have been waived to allow more minorities/women to qualify and government is not what it once was. Secondly, I believe it hurts the minorities because it implies that they are not good enough on their own to qualify for jobs without legalized discrimination. There is still some discrimination against minorities, but I feel we have been discriminating against white males for over 2 generations now, and that is enough. I thing AA has hurt the people and the country and the minorities. I would vote against it.

Some states have done away with the affirmative action program. If two people apply for the same job, one qualified, one not. If one is other than white, they will get the job whether they are qualified or not. If they don't get the employer will face a hefty lawsuit for discrimination.

That is Affirmative Action.

Here are all your ballot propositions. The Secretary of State's website has the exact wording of the propositions (linked from this page).

The MI proposition is actually to BAN affirmative action.

Vote YES on Proposal 2.

Affirmative action is a denial of the fact we are all born different; a denial of a person's right to get the position they deserve; a denial of every ones ability to transcend or live apart from their conditions of birth.

U.P.

AA guarantees the rights of minorities in the workplace. This means, a Hispanic woman, hard worker, wanting to support her children and get out of welfare can have a stable job where nobody will be harassing her or discriminating against her on the basis of sex or race.

It is a good thing

A.A sounds good in theory but its really just racism and forcing people to do things they dont want to do b/c the government thinks we all hate minorities. which is obviously untrue and it does more harm than good.
