I quite my horrible job a few weeks back and have found that after a year with my last nasty employer I can apply for much better jobs then before. However, the application processes are so long and arduous that I think it will be a while before I start a proper job. I have been looking for temp jobs to keep me going but after spending a few weeks being treated like dirt by temp agencies for the sake of minimum wage temp jobs my confidence is starting to take a battering and I'm beginning to think I should just hold out for a permanent job and have faith something will appear befoe my money runs out? Advice????

I'm a temp right now... and I can vouch for ya. It sucks. Take the crap job now while you wait for the good job. Quit the second they hire you for the good one. And steal some pens.

Sometimes Temp services want to see what kind of worker you are, so they will give you a crappy job for a day or two to see how it goes. then they will see how you did and look for a good job. You are not the client, the company that they place you is the client. They just want to make sure you do a good job, so that thier client will come back to them.

Check out Kelley (sp?) services and also check out spherion, they are two really good services.

P.s. Im currently working temp until I get a better job. Im waiting to hear from a big company that the temp services work with but I need cash so im working a small job with little pay, but the big jos will pay three times what im making now. good luck

Take it. Don't try to show anyone up, and just do what exactly is asked of you. In a month you should have made a friend or two that is higher up that you can share your fears and concerns with. In the mean time, you can still apply to other jobs in the mean time. This way there is not a major gap in your employment and if they don't end up giving you a full time job, you can always collect unemployment at that time.

I always found it was erasier to get a new job when money was coming in. I don't know maybe you look less needy at the interview? Anyway, get some cash coming in by taking a temp job, and keep looking until you find where you are really happy.

Good luck.

I think I would take a seasonal Christmas job to make ends meet. That way after Christmas you can move on and it will not look like you are changing jobs all the time.

run the spell check when you turn in resumes.
if you need money, work the temp jobs but actively seek a full time position.

if it is a crappy temp job, can you make it clear to the employer that you are looking elsewhere for a full time gig?

good luck!

Perhaps you could do some voluntary work in the mean time. It always looks good on your cv. You won't get paid much, if at all, but it shows you are willing to put in effort whilst 'unemployed' or perhaps you could do some work from home?Try contacting lots of companies via the net, you never know, you may get lucky.

I think you should be waiting for the right job to come along, but in the mean time, try to find something that will give you some extra cash.

my advice is stick with the temporary jobs till after christmas.
at least you are doing somthing.
a new year and a new start.
many companies will not take on new staff now because of holiday pay and time off over christmas.

Sometimes temp jobs turn into full-time positions. Hang in there!
