I am 37 years old so I wondering if I am too old to switch careers. Well I don't really have a career to change because I am a stay-at-home mom with my youngest entering into kindergarten next year (I have four children). I love to cook and I am bored with desk jobs but I am not sure if I want to go back to school and then compete with someone 10 or 15 younger then for me for jobs.

ur neva too old.....im 18 and studying to be a chef an there are ppl of all ages and cultures studying the same classes wit me.....and it doesn't automatically mean dat ur gonna be competing wit them for the same jobs either.......not many ppl know this but there are heaps of different career paths to choose from with being a chef trust me.......plus there are loads of jobs all around the world.....so if u end up losing a job to someone else it wont be hard finding another one just as good, or even better, sumwhere else

good luck!!!! :)

You're never too old to switch careers. The only time to stay put is when you need to save up all your money, but if you have the opportunity to change your plan, go for what you'll enjoy and be good at. I say go for it, make enough to open a small diner or restaurant, and you'll never have to compete with chefs again.

Go for it, when my dad was made redundant about 6 yrs ago he did a course in electronics engineering and he used to work in the textile industry, also he was about 8 yrs older than you at the time.

you are not too old. it's not hard to compete with young people.
except that sometimes they have no responsibilities.
i think you should try it for a semester and see if it's for you.
what do you have to lose?
