There's a co-worker. She is so negative. And competitive. I'd tell her something that happened to me and immediately she'd say something equivalent that happened to her.
And we're supposed to be sharing the work and half the time she goes off and does something else that she should have done already and leaves me with all the work and it's very frustrating. I come in at 11 and she usually leaves by 2, and it's the most frustrating 3 hours of the day. Nobody is happier when 2 comes than I am.
I used to have another co-worker that turned out to be pi-polar. How good my day was always depended on what end of the pole she was on. There were days she bitched endlessly. Those days I was mentally drained. She finally quit due to the depression and I haven't seen her much since.

Oh my god...recently, I had been letting my step-brother stay at my house because he didn't have a job and a place to live. Well, he had been there about a month and a half and hadn't contributed to anything. No housework, no bills, no groceries. I was exhausted! One day I came home for lunch and he had broken dishes and several other things broken in the house and the house reeked of pot. He was irate and I didn't know what was going on. Turns out the was drunk and stoned and the money that I had been giving him for food and cigarettes was going to pot and beer. I had to kick him out. It was a tough decision and I was so mentally exhausted for the next week, I had to take a day off of work, my performance slipped, and I slept for an entire day! I'm finally feeling back to normal, but I swear that will be the last time that I let someone in to my house!

That's wild you asked that question. I am currently dealing with a similar situation. After my encounter with the sad, lifeless negative people I tend you feel emotionally drained also. The reason is because I care. I wish I didn't but that is just my personality. I like to immediately call a cheerier friend or my mom to counteract the situation. Sometimes it helps to just go to a quiet secluded spot and just get lost in my thoughts. Think of happier times or my family and my conscience normally rights itself. Love, life and the pursuit of happiness !

Yes, mentally drained would cover it perfectly. Negativism is very draining, and usually leaves me longing for a nap, to recharge my inner batteries.
Have a great day, and avoid those negative emotions of others if possible!

Everyday, I deal with the public. Everyday, I go home mentally exhausted because all these people just b*tch and complain all day and I have to be nice to them. Sometimes I just wanna smack them upside the head, but of course I can't. So restraining myself is also quite exhausting.

Yes. Negative people make me feel tired and my mind wanders off while they are talking! Ho-hum!
