We are going to boracay and we do not know if we should take the Philippine Airlines to Kalibo or the Asian Spirit or Sea Air to Caticlan? Some say that Caticlan would be better but I want to make sure. Does it really matter? We are going this January but haven't bought the tickets yet nor reserved any rooms yet. They say you could always get rooms there anyways.. right?

No. Caticlan is the better route hands down. You will waste 2-3 hours each way travelling from Kalibo to Boracay versus 15 minutes tops from Caticlan. It is much closer to Boracay, flights from Manila to Caticlan are more frequent and sometimes cheaper, especially if you don't use PAL (way too expensive). All you need to get to the island from the airport is to hjop on a tricycle to the boat station. Besides you get to see the entire island just before you land, a very nice introduction to Boracay.

You may be able to get rooms through the Tourism office at the Caticlan side of the boat station--even in high season. Those people are very helpful.

If you want to get there faster, caticlan is the best option coz its only 15mins to the sea port. If you like to look at the country side, then you can take PAL and travel 2 1/2 hrs by land to caticlan sea port.
January is Ati-atihan festival in Kalibo, might as well see the town fiesta and the street dancing..

enjoy ur trip!

Philippines Airlines planes are bigger (and safer) than the other options that they can't land @ Caticlan airport, so they have to use Kalibo airport (bigger runway), if you want the fastest route going to Boracay beach then use the Caticlan airport.

If you land at Kalibo airport, there is a 2 and half hour land ride going to the boat terminal (headed for Boracay Island).

But still prefer to fly Philippine Airlines

January 15 & 16 is when the main fiesta celebration of the Sto Nino at-atihan last year. It is a colorful & festive occasion in Kalibo. See their website, www.ati-atihan.net/events.html.

I went to Boracay 3-5 years ago & we landed in Caticlan. I would suggest that you take Kalibo & coincide your vacation with their town fiesta. Take advantage of it! I suggest that have your bookings ahead of time since it is probably peak season in the area. However, it is also better to see the place first before checking in. Check in reputable places like Lorenzo South, Club Panoly etc.

Kalibo airport is 1.5 to 2 hours land travel going to Caticlan pier where you can ride boat going to boracay for 20mins. Caticlan airport is closer - its about 5 to 10 mins land travel to Caticlan pier. Only small planes land in Caticlan airport - Seair & Asian Spirit. In Kalibo - Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific & Air Philippines. For budget concern, there are cheap promo going to Kalibo and usually applies for early booking. When in January? because mid January is Ati-atihan festival and late January to 1st week February is Chinese New Year. it might be fully book. so i recommend that if you are definite with your schedule, please book as early as possible. for further query, pls email me at lindaltan@yahoo.com - im a travel agent in Manila

You can actually take PAL if you want to go around Kalibo first to look around though there isn't really anything to see. But if you want to go shopping first before proceeding to Boracay the Gaisano mall there offers a lot of REALLY cheap but nice clothes. If you hadn't gone shopping for Boracay then you can go shopping there instead of buying stuff in Manila or Boracay. You can buy board shorts for like 60 pesos and they're of good quality i tell you. If you go on the third weekend of January then travel by PAL if you want to join the Ati-Atihan festival. But if Boracay's the only thing you're after then I suggest fly Seair to spare you from the 1 1/2-hour(minimum) car ride. What's more is that It's a tad bit tiring to travel by plane, car then by bangka (palm boat). It'll be such a hassle especially when you're on your way back from Boracay to Manila. And if i were you get rooms like way before your trip cause December and January are considered peak seasons in Boracay, as well as March-May.
