A 1955 Ford Prefect sit up and beg model that had transverse springing so it rolled round bends. The windscreen wipers worked of the exhaust manifold, so if you were accelerating the wipers slowed down. Cost me £15 kept it for 2 years and got £35 for it in part exchange.

White Fiat 500, registration 2678 KW. Had a sun roof (well a bit of canvas that you rolled back on the roof) and a manual (of course) gear box that had no synchromesh on it. This meant that you had to “Double D clutch” every time that you changed gear. Basically this means that you had to increase the engine revs between easing out of one gear and easing into another one. Quite tricky! The car did about 60 MPG which meant that at 5 shillings a gallon travel was cheap. Good job as I was a student and had no money. I met Ann on a student trip to Berlin and when we got home she became a passenger in my Fiat. Unfortunately it broke down most journeys so Ann spent a fair amount of time pushing the car with me in it. After a while she presented an ultimatum – either the car went or She did. Tricky call! I sold the car and Ann and I are still together after 37 years. I wonder where the car is? If anyone can find it I will reward them with £100 cash. Honest!

My first car was a red Volkswagon Golf Mk II, I got if for £150, it was almost 20 years old, it had been completely stripped inside, there were wires hangin out under the dash, the lights used to go off, no full beam, sunroof sealed up with 2 tubes of silicone but there was always a puddle on the floor, the exhaust fell off and I tied it back on with fencing wire, it used to break down every 50 - 100 miles until I realised air was getting in through the fuel filter, then it ran perfectly. It only had 4 gears but it was really quick and handled brilliantly, it had nearly 200k on the clock, was still on the original carb, I loved that little car, I miss it so much I want to sell my fancy Vectra and get another one!

A Jaguar Daimler 5.3l V12 Limo. Specially built for my great grandfather to celebrate his 80th birthday in 1985. It was metallic emerald green with ivory leather and emerald piping. It had period climate control, inch thick white carpets and a seriously retro cd player. The engine was so smooth you could place a full champagne flute on the engine block, give it full beans when parked in neutral and the damn thing wouldn't fall off. I loved that car, everyone I met loved that car. I never failed to clinch a 'pull' as soon as some lucky young chap clocked eyes on my green envy machine. But the people who loved my Jag the most were petrol station managers; 9 miles to a gallon and £120 for a full (twin) tank 6 years ago was so very very painful.

My first car was a 1979 chevrolet firebird, I called it my firechicken. It had 400 small block V8, me and my mate were into HotRods so I spent all my summer job money tricking it out. By the time I was done it had 490 hp at the wheels. It was bright yellow, and went like a MFKR. But I guy offered me 10 times what I paid for it, so I sold it. Then my grand-dad had this mate with a farm, and he had a 68 cuda, and a 68 camaro ss, sitting in his field rotting, so I bought the pair for 500 bucks. I tricked those out too. It was alot of work and alot of money, but iot was worth it. Then I got married to my wife and moved to the UK, and considering those cars get 9 and 11 miles to the gallon, they sit on blocks in my parents garage. Now I have a Nissan Pathfinder(family/farm car) and a 350Z roadster.(My car)

Ahhh my first car. It was a red convertible,1966 Sunbeam Tiger, manufactured by Roots in the UK. It had a Ford 260 engine and it was very, very fast. It would top out at about 150 mph. To this day, I don't know how I wasn't killed in that car. I was 18 yrs old and lead footed.

Passat TS, 1600 (1982). I dashed it out to a relation after using it for 17 years! I used it for so long for a number of reasons. I got over-accustomed to it; local currency devaluation made acquisition of another new car difficult; the car proved very reliable and durable, with proper handling though.
