which instrument is harder to play/become competent at? the saxophone or violin/viola?

The violin/viola, because the fingering is more complex. Anyone who hears an amateur during practice time will agree...a student playing a violin sounds like an angry toddler stomping on a cat...many appalling screeches.

Violin/viola, definately. I play the violin, the viola, and the alto sax. The violin and viola are harder because the fingering is more complex, you have to have good bowing technique (high elbow when on lower strings, bowing straight, using the whole bow when the dynamics are loud, etc.), and posture.

Its easy to 'play' the violin and viola, but to play it good is a whole 'nother story. You have to keep your fingering hand straight, and your fingers must be in the right place. The saxophone you only have to press down the keys, finger position isn't quite as important.

I would say the violin. When you play the violin you have to hear the notes to know where to put your fingers. With a saxophone you just have to hold down the keys to play notes. The only easier thing about the violin is that you don't need to blow into it which for some people could be hard.

I play the viola and read the sheet music and think it is easy after you get used to it. I can play the violin but can't read the music well at all. The sax would be the hardest one for me. But I would start with the viola and work with them all then you can decide what is hard and what is not! Viola is really fun and Good Luck!

Most instuments are hard to play but the real hard one is the saxophone...

I play violin its sooooooooo easy...I never try the saxophone so i am not sure abt it but i know it from my friend

My friend was playing playing saxophone it was really hard so she quit that and now she is studing violin..she told me that violin is easy to study..A LOT EASIER THAN THE SAXOPHONE..

Most people say the violin and the viola is the hard one but its really really easy for me and my friend...First you have to learn how to put your hand..then the notes...

I am telling you violin is much easier that the otherss

violin/viola cause u have to keep the bow moving straight and u have to learn where to put your fingers unlike saxophone where u just have to press buttons and blow

but i still suggest you play violin or viola

I would say violin/viola just because i have watched others learn both and they seemed to have more trouble with the violin/viola. but you can learn whatever instrument you want if you stick to it long enough

it depends on you.do you breath well or do you run out of breath easily?if so the sax would be hard for you.are you good with your fingers or bad?that is what applies to the violin.you can get a violin with frets like a guitar that would probably be easiest.actually you should play both and practice, practice, practice then you'll know which you're better at.
