I know that small people don't like the name "midget", but are these just names or are there certain characteristics between them?

Little people is the term they prefer and it refers to all adult people who have a statue of 4'10" or less

In the 19th century, midget was a medical term referring to an extremely short but normally-proportioned person and was used in contrast to dwarf, which denoted disproportionate shortness

Midgets are well proportioned but tiny. Dwarfs have a big torso and short limbs, also a big head and small people is a euphemism for both.

these are just nasty names, they are not even close to the correct name for it. They like to be called "Little People" and they have a nation wide organization called LPA (Little people of america) It's like calling someone with downsyndrom retarded. It is completely different. I suggest you do some internet research if you have any serious question.
