They want to discontinue with the printing of Rs. currency and switch over to coins. It is in the transition stage. The old currencies, until weeded out after getting sullied completely, will be in circulation, along side the coins.

well, i think the Rs.5 note is outdated, but is still used as its circulation was not fully revoked
most people use the coin, and many vendors/customers will accept ONLY the coin
