Well It was totally orange and now it is black. I won them both at a fish game at my school. I was told that they were true goldfish and they looked like gold fish. Is it sick or something?

Happened to my goldfish.

This is perfectly normal. Goldfish go through a series of color changes as they grow older. You should be happy that their growth has not been stunted or stopped.

When a goldfish turns white or very pale (as per the above answerer's fish) it is because the fish isn't getting enough light and his pigments fade. Believe it or not a fish suffering colour loss will become depressed.

I don't know if a fish can turn black in the same manner, but I would recommend that you have a look at your lighting conditions. Good luck!

I have four gold fish in an aquarium and one of them turned almost white, I was scared too, but the gold fish will reflect any problems with their environment. The pH could be off and he may need some ick guard. They sell the pH tests and the ick guard at Wal-Mart or any pet store. Don't worry, I believe he'll be okay.

How quickly did it turn black? Is it completely black or spots? Some goldfish will get different colored spots on them and some can change color. Are you sure they are true goldfish? Comets and Koi and in the same family as goldfish and are often mistaken for them, comets and goldfish are mistaken alot because they look almost identical and comets change color often.

try cutting back on the food- one big flake for each fish 2 times a day. if the fish is acting sick then it is sick and it might die. If you don't have a bubbler then get one of those, they might not be getting enough oxygen
