I have a Toshiba Satellite 2435-S255 Laptop which I bought like 4 years ago. It has given me some problems before but has been fixed, etc. But a few months ago, my CD-R/DVD ROM just stopped reading disks. The tray opens fine but when I insert a disk it acts like if there was nothing there. When I try to access the CD-ROM it says "Please insert a disc into thr Drive". I've tried cleaning the lens with a cotton ball, and I've tried disabling the hardware and enabling it again, but nothing work. I'd appreciatte any help.

Three things may cause this.

01. Incase your CD-ROM data canble is not properly connected. In such a case the data cannot be read by the ROM. It can also be due to a defective data cable.

02. Incase the lens has dust or moisture on it. In such a case use a ROM claening CD. Please make sure you run a new disc and run it atleast 3-4 times. This will sort out the problem.

03. The last one being a case in which your CD RW lens is gone. Insuch a case you have to go for a new lens and that may cost almost the price of the ROM. If that is the case there is no other option than to go for a new ROM.

Please if the computer is detecting the drive quite alright dont disturb the setting of the software. Here what I understand is that the cd-rw/dvd rom is not reading discs. I think what is needed is cleaning the lens well and professionally otherwise the lens will be damaged; if not replacing the lens; or purchasing another cd-rw/dvd rom. Remember never open an appliance if you are not a professional in that entity. Seek for professional help.

ok this is the solutions: DVD= digital Video D? (lol sorry won't be in a position to remember the final be conscious). this is a disc, like different DVD in television. The Disc is for Video. DVD R=digital Video D? study. this is advise once you insert this DVD, you may basically study as many time as you choose yet write basically one time. DVD RW= DVD study write. you may rewrite, study and burn each time you choose. DVD-ROM = this is the relatively situation that as quickly as you put in your DVD. Yourcontinual, like your popular DVD participant. different than it smaller and specific at computing device basically (i think of). CD=Compact Disc. basically for Audio. Very short reminiscence. CD-R = is the comparable theory like DVD-R. It basically could nicely be study yet won't be in a position to be rewrite and write. CD-RW = CD study write. could nicely be rewrite, burn and study as many time. CD-ROM = Is thecontinual itself. you won't be in a position to tell any distinctive between CD-ROM and DVD-ROM. They in all probability are the comparable. some cutting-side CD or DVD greater healthful with DVDROM/CDROM. desire this clarify a lot!

It clearly seems to be not detecting the drive. Did you check the hardware configuration? Does it display the CD drive? If it does try reinstalling the drivers. Did you check the cables (You have to open the laptop)
