I have a good one for pulling a sickie but you need a co-worker to do it with you. Get them to keep complaining that they feel like a light-bulb. When the boss sends them home for some rest to sort their head out, then you get up to leave as well. When the boss asks you where do you think you are going then just say, "Well, I can't work in the dark." Just joking, but all of the other answers are good.

Female problems.... if your boss is a man, they always get a little queazy and do not want further explanation. Or that you have been throwing up all night and had fever.

Up all night throwing up. It's easy to "recover" from so you don't have to act like you have the sniffles at work the next day.
