Wow! I read A Suitable Boy over the summer, I now have really strong arms - I felt like I got my life back when I finished it - Moby Dick next summer! One of my favourite books of all time is House of Sand and Fog by Andre Dubus III, it's great - wierd the person above me put that too!! And this is a no brainer, but I absolutely loved Life of Pi xxx

Birdsong is a very good read, the description of the Somme battle scene leaves you chilled, and not in a good way.
Although I did enjoy Band of Brothers, it goes a heck of a lot deeper into the camaraderie of the men than the TV series.

I really really loved Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks, but Captain Corelli's Mandolin is also incredible! As an off the wall storyline and gripping adventure, I really loved The Life Of Pi!

I know its a kids book and I read it when I was 25 but it had a big impact on me for some reason.
