Depends on the hotspot. Just like your wireless network at home, the router is attached to a wired internet provider, and these vary. Faster wires cost more. The router(s) and access points extend the network, and there might be several people using it at once. You are sharing a fixed resource, so performance may vary.

Depends on the speed of the wifi hotspot and your wireless card. If your card is a G card and the Wifi hotspot runs at B levels then you will run at B (11 mbs).
