I actaully love cats and have one of my own and I love her to bits but when I see my neighbours cats crapping on my lawn I want to put my hands around there fluffy little throats and strangle them, I too have a child who loves to play out.
Moth balls, they hate the smell, curry plants they hate the smell of this oh and also citrus smelling plants, lemon balm etc. Water pistol is a good idea as they dont like water at all...
And if all the above doesn't work try your right foot!!!!

Cats hate citrus. Try spreading some orange or lemon peels aorund your garden. If you don't like that idea, try a citrus spray of some sort. These are available at supermarkets and some specialist pet stores. It is best to explain your problem to a clerk and they would probably be able tor ecommend a spray.

I have found that the most effective cat deterrent on soil has been used coffee grounds - they don't like the bitter taste on their paws. However, I have never had to use it on lawns but you could try it before buying anything more expensive. Also bowls of water seem to put them off, why I don't know but it won't cost to find out.

There is not a lot you can do about it. A major pet store may have some type of repellent. We have wild cats around here and the only thing to do is not put food out for them and they will eventually move on.

Apparently you can buy tiger/lion poo pellets. Sprinkle these around the outskirts of your garden and those cats won't come anywhere near!
You can also buy black metal silhouettes of cats which keeps them away to a certain extent.

Fill an empty coke bottle or use a clear bottle with water and lay on garden. Keep the water and bottles clear. Don't ask me why but it works had the same problem.

if you go to your local garden center there are stacks of products, the best ones I used to use were called Get Off crystals, they were bright green lemon smelling gel pellets that one sprinkled on and they worked, if it rains you do have put them out again, but they are very good. Lion poo also works if you can get hold of it....I'm serious too!

Plastic pellet BB gun (aim for their a*rses, perhaps use rubber snakes. Any place like flower beds, you can put down a wire mesh. They hate that.
I have two black labs, neigbors on one side have bulldogs, the others two mixed breeds. No cats crap round here.
