Boy or girl? Ask them. I took some boys to LaserQuest this year -- but 9 yr olds. They (and I ) absolutely LOVED it!!!
I'm not in that age range yet, but check out www.birthdaypartyideas.com and see what other moms have done for their 11 year olds. I use that sight each year when I have to plan 2 parties for my boys...

Take them to the beach. Let them decide. They might wanna go to the movies, have a halloween party or sit at home doing nothing...
When I was 11, this girl at about ten of her best friends go to this camp place with a cool swing, horse riding and all these really cool activites. I wasn't invited, but my friend was, and I was green with envy!

Have a big birthday party with all of her or her friends, ask him or her where he or she wants it to be held, and buy the child a new bicycle!
