Love is always worth giving, and it's more valuable than any tangible present. I know this. Presents are a corporeal way of sharing with my friends, and I'm always happy to give to them. It makes me happy because they know I love them, don't get me wrong. It's just, after a year or two of getting no presents of any sort (even though I've given, well, many), you kind of wish they would reciprocate.

My mother says it's not worth giving presents because none of them give back. I'm not sure why they don't- they're my friends, just as I am theirs. Maybe they have a no-present policy that I'm fighting against.

That is a good question. I am always the giver of everything and rarely recieve. Not that i expect things back but give gifts to show love and affection . People are just selfish and others are broke. I have slacked off of it because i am getting more broke and i see them doing fine and i just need a break from it before i feel resentful. I only give what someone truly needs now and cant get for themself unless it is a rare occasion or something you would rarely find. And only if i can afford it. Some people will use you so be careful .The world is getting ugly.

Of course it depends on, which financial situation they are in, but if you think they could afford to, but are just reluctant to do so, I also would quit doing so earlier or later.

Not that I think that there should be a financial compensation for your efforts on their behalf one-to-one but there should be some form of reciprocal appreciation.
In this case buying a present for you would be the most direct form. I guess.

Maybe tell one of them, that you bought another one of them a present last year and didn't get anything in return... maybe they will start talking about it amongst each other and realize, that they all didn't pay attention to your efforts...

First of all make sure that your friends are not taking an advantage of you. Maybe it has become the norm for you to present them with gifts, and they have become accustomed to it, so they don't feel the need to give anything back. Also consider other circumstances; maybe your friends are having financial trouble?
I like to give presents regardless of whether i receive back or not. Those are not my intentions when giving gifts to someone.

If your friends are male, it is unlikely they give anyone much in the way of presents. It's just not something males instinctively do. Some forget their own wife's birthday, anniversary, etc. It doesn't mean they don't appreciate the gifts you give them. Also, maybe they cannot afford to buy people gifts.

It is not about giving and expecting a return, it is totally up to your wish to give presents. If it makes you and your friend happy, why not. But i dun see a need too, to buy gifts always... It may seemed like you are buying friends.
When you give, you never expect returns. Rem that.

well it's not always about the receiving thats the problem but the friends you have will start to always expect these presents to all the time, and even worse start to take you for granted, then theres a fine line between are they your friend because they love you?....or are they yor friend because of the presents you keep giving them?....think about it.

...Never give a gift expecting one in return , your friends probably don't feel the need to give you gifts as friendship doesn't mean you must buy things for them or they for you ...count your blessings and bask in the friendship alone ..stop buying gifts maybe they feel uncomfortable.... Holiday gifts are fine a small item maybe

Give them a card for special occasions. At least you remembered compared to them not giving you anything at all.

I would stop and just invite them all out to go for super or drinks - and if you want you can pick up the tab, but you don't have to.
