Moon unit. Thre's one thing you are all forgetting.....if she doesn't like it when she's older, she can always change it and it's free! Better than hating your name/parents all your life.

When I worked in a call center I had a supervisor whose name was Monkey. For real!! She was about 45 years old and I never got used to the fact that it was her given name. I can still remember the day she got on the phone to take a call and the woman calling was named Bunny!!! The call center went bananas that day.
This was at Cardservice International in Moorpark, California around 1999. I named my son Adrian Nicholas. Go figure.

For people like me who like traditional names, I don't care for it. But...it's your sister's choice, and i"m sure the name will grow on your niece. If she grows up absolutely despising her name, she can always change it when she's an adult. And...in this melting multi-cultural pot of a country, we are no longer a group of "Marys, Johns, Davids, and Janes". She won't stick out.
A beautiful HEALTHY baby with an unusual name...there are worse things...

People of different cultures tend to name their children what others consider to be unusual. Anyway, You'll get used to it. Maybe you can call her 'Bonni' as a nick name?? Anyway, when little Boniqua runs up to you and smiles and wants you to hold her, her name will be of little importance...you'll just think of the love you have for her. Amen! :-)

Telaya, which wasn't so bad, but her surname was Hore. I guess some people just don't think!
