Drogba is playing very good this months but you can't compare his work to the work of Eto'o all season for Barça. He was one of the main reasons for Barcelona winning both La Liga and the CL last year, with his goals, his spirit and the help he gave to the team. Now that he is out of the team you can easily see the problems Barcelona is facing without him and the enormous work he was doing, little noticed till now, I think. I also think he had the ability to score in important matches (look at the CL final for example) and this is mainly what lacks to Barça these times. So I definitely choose Eto'o

Drogba or Eto'o? Personally when I think of African footballers, mainly Eto'o and Essien come to mind. Maybe Essien isn't having a good season? However, regardless of Essien's absence from the dual list, and even though he has been dealing with injury, I'm going with Eto'o (being a Barca fan, that's probably biased).

It should be Eto'o cuz he plays briliant football. But Drogba has been playing really well for this few recent matches. So it could be him too. But let's look at other african players who are performing well.

Nwankwo Kanu is doing superb! And Obafemi Martins is a good buy for the Magpies. But i still say it would be Eto'o. He's the Ronaldo of Africa.

Although Drogba is a really talented player, I think that Eto'o should get the African Footballer of the year because it certainly seems like Barca plays better when he is around...
In last seaon's Champions League, he was voted the best attacking player over everyone else...even Drogba!

Now as he's not around, barca is actually losing!

well drogba is starting to pay back some of the over priced fee Chelsea paid for him ..but he is still a cheat and really if he didn't would be twice as good as he is...i mean why give awards to cheats what sort of example is that to kids who are growing up into the game...as for eto'o he is a proven striker and has been a great role model for kids especially with all the racism he has been fighting but he has been out injured so he hasn't really done much this season so you cant just give him a award because of stuff he has done in previous season's also i do believe that ronaldhinio is half the reason he is such a prolific goal scorer i mean with the passes he produces i think even i could finish them....why not look to another African player because lets face it there are more than 2 who could win the award...k.toure of arsenal has come on so much in the last couple of years Benny McCarthy has started to show what he is capable of sissoko has been solid for Liverpool muntari is also anotheir i think one of these should have a few votes their way....just my opinion.

Oh good, your question is still open.
I invited someone one day to watch a Barcelona match when Eto'o was playing, that person (not like us) didn't know anything about Eto'o and let me tell you when he saw him play he said who the heck is that.
So, I'll second my friend with Eto'o, feel better Eto'o Barca needs you.

Edit: I read the other answers after writing mine. I don't agree with Rizwano and lady_chatelaine, sorry guys, it's like saying that Barbaro doesn't deserve Horse of the Year because he got injured. He was still the better upcoming horse, no doubt.

BASED ON THE PERFORMANCE THIS YEAR IT IS CLEAR THAT DROGBA SHOULD GET AFRICAN PLAYER OF THE YEAR. ETO'O HAS BEEN OUT WITH INJURY FOR MOST OF THE SEASON SO FAR.

RIZWANO IS PROBABLY RIGHT. BUT IF IT'S UP TO ME, I'D STILL GIVE IT ETO'O. I LIKE DROGBA BUT I HAVE PROBLEMS WITH CERTAIN ASPECTS OF HIS GAME. ETO'O, ON THE OTHER HAND, IS JUST PERFECT. BOTH IN HIS GAME AND THE ETHICS OF IT.

If bulldozing and diving is football then Drogba is a clear winner. if it is an art- crispy and spicy Eto'o dazzles.
