My Dad has just retired and wants books to read, but apart from liking Stephen King, Dean Koontz and James Herbert, he really doesn't know what else to read. Can any one suggest any books by similar writers?

I read & enjoy the same sort of books as your Dad - here are some of the other authors that I also read.

He could try Jonathan Kellerman ... it's not really horror, except for maybe in the pyschological sense but the stories are gripping &, like Dean Koontz, the author makes it's lead character believable & likeable.

What about Thomas Harris who wrote the Silence of the Lambs? ... but again this is horror without a supernatural element.

On a similar line, I also enjoy reading Robin Cook & Michael Crichton.

Going towards the more supernatural side of horror - there's Graham Masterton, Benchley Little, Robert McCammon (& I did enjoy Boys Life), Richard Laymon & Peter Straub.

And if he fancies a complete change of theme, he could always try reading some of Wilbur Smith's books - my Dad introduced me to them by quoting a horrific passage from 'Eagle in the Sky' - I subsequently read the whole book & it remains my top favourite of all Wilbur Smith's stories.

Stephen King defiently. he's so gifted. i like his mini sequence alongside with Kingdom wellbeing facility and The Stand. i like getting over excited in his books too. the flicks are somewhat thrilling as you could tell. he's just one thing new than each and all of the comparable horror action picture/ e book stuff. He bottles your suggestions and makes you think of in an fullyyt in any different case way. he's astonishing. properly, in any case this is my opinion

My favorite is Robert R. McCammon but he might also like John Saul. They all write in the same style.
The exception are McCammons later books such as "Going South" and "Boys Life". He tried something different and I didn't like them.
