Why not cut the back off your fridge, then close the door and have a look through the back?

Yes, there's usualy a small button that gets pressed when the fridge door closes. When it's pressed the light is turned off, when it's released the light is turned on.

Yes, if you shut the door very slowly you might notice that right before it's closed completely the light goes off.
