I use a 256kbps broadband connection. BSNL is my ISP. Whenever I connect to the internet the 'svchost.exe' run by the system uses 90,000+ K of memory wich slows the computer speed. I use a 256 MB RAM. If i end this svchost TCP/IP is dropped or the connection is closed. My computer is not infected with any sort of virus/malware/spybot/Ad-ware or other unwanted programs. What do I do???

To view the list of services that are running in Svchost: 1. Click Start on the Windows taskbar, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type CMD, and then press ENTER.
3. Type Tasklist /SVC, and then press ENTER.
Tasklist displays a list of active processes. The /SVC switch shows the list of active services in each process. For more information about a process, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
Tasklist /FI "PID eq processID" (with the quotation marks)

Of course you need a good antivirus program. Dont go for free antivirus programs in net. Most of them will not be effective and offers good support as the paid ones.

Also in the case of any antivirus program it works to its best if it is installed just after the installation of OS. After instalation update it from Net and do a full system scan. Then go on with the installation of other programs. Do update the antivirus frequently to ensure better protection

In your case, the best option is to reinstall the OS and proceeed as stated above. Even if reinstallation is not possible get a good antivirus and make it functional.
