he is pitch black with small yellow spots on the front half of his body. I cant find any picture of an eel that looks like him. he has the body but color is very odd for any eel i've seen. I've already moved him to a brakish water aquarium and he is doing very well. he eats very well and is very active, but i cant figure out what his exact breed is. I am new to the yahoo answers thing, i can post a picture if i knew how to. thankyou for any help.

This doesn't sound like a freshwater moray (i.e. freshwater snowflake) - which are actually brackish, nor does it sound like any of the freshwater spiny eels I've seen. So, you may have a true saltwater eel on your hands, or another species of fish that looks like an eel. I would go to http://www.wetwebmedia.com/WWMAdminSubWebIndex/question_page.htm and follow their instructions for how to email them your question and how to attach a picture. These people know what they are doing and should be able to help you identify it better than any of us on yahoo answers.

Yep, I agree that they are mostly brackish water moray eels. And only this when young. I once bought a "reed eel" I swear that this was just a freshwater eel. Made a great petfish though. Would eat out of my hand. come to the top when called etc. Had to keep a tight lid on the tank though or it would go for walkies. Had to sell it when I moved house. Really sad to lose it.

sounds like a snowflake eel... look up a snowflake eel and see if that is what he looks like. He also can be a saltwater eel, so look under saltwater eels too. I just saw one in a pet store and I commented on how weird it looked and asked why anyone would buy one, and he said he just sold a saltwater snowflake "like this one" for a fresh water tank.

Huh... didn't know about that one. Keep us posted!

A picture would help. Im not sure how you add a pic, I think it may have to be a hyperlink you add to the pic on an online site...say a 360 page or web page that you have. Look in the help section it might give more info there.
