It would make me feel vulnerable.
Also I like to think that I am, and come across as a good person so for someone to point out something negative about me makes me think that it is very obvious and I have a major fault that I need to work on.

I guess it's all about ego basically, as the other poster has said.
Also pointing out a weak point can itself be seen as an insult because of the negativity and criticism in it.

It depends on who tells us our weak points, and the situation when it’s told. If it’s in a middle of an argument for instance, it will never be taken positively, but rather as a harsh criticism out of trying to provoke you. If it comes from a lover it may subconsciously be interpreted that you are not good enough for him/her. If it comes from a rival or a person of match it will also be taken negatively. But for instance if it comes from a parent or someone so close to you, who you know only wants your welfare, it might be taken differently and in a good sense.

Because no one wants to think that they "have" a weak point.

We were brought up on stereotypes, like John Wayne and all the other heros of Television, and most of us wanted to be "just like them"!

Now, for some one to say that we have a "flaw", its hard to accept it.

But, if we are mature about it, then we will work on those flaws and build them up so that we can be a better well rounded person.

A "small" person cant accept criticism, and when pointed out, they realize thier shortcomings and it "hurts" thier egos...

A "big" person will work to overcome them all...

I wish you well...

I don't think people feel insulted, I think they feel threatened if anything. We don't like to give others the upper hand, therefore, when someone discovers out weakness we panic!
