There's a whole nation to the north of you that has a higher standard of living, its economy is in better shape, the minimum wage is higher, has universal health care instead of a bloated military that spends trillions on weapons that are never used, is not obsessed with imposing one religion or another on its multicultural citizens, is present as peacekeepers in the world's hotspots, has soldiers coming home dead or injured due to American "friendly fire", has marriage for all, and is a parliamentary democracy. It's the second largest nation on the planet, shares the North American continent, and by and large, most of its population has no desire to be American.

What is this, "Who Wants to be a Millionaire"?
Whenever there's any kind of natural disaster anywhere in the world, Americans are always first on the scene.
We have churches that send more aid money to victims of these disasters than entire countries are able (or willing) to send.
What percentage of Africans could name three capital cities on the African continent? Probably not as many as you think...
Perhaps you could answer the question, "Why is America the place that everyone in the world wants to live?" There's a simple answer to that question.

All I know as I can't stand poetry. Is poetry a requirement to knowledge of world affairs? I read over a thousand words a minute and think most poetry is a waste of words. Poetry is to the real world is as dreams are to reality in my mind. I'm sure alot of people would disagree
And if your from China? Try not to forget the Flying Tigers and their little contribution ot China before America got into the war

This is your question, so I shall play by your rules:
a. Cairo/Nairobi/Lusaka
b. Spanish-American War/ Mexican-American War/War of 1812
c. Robert Frost/e. e. cummings/Walt Whitman
Now. To answer your question, Americans care a great deal about the world. After WW I, it was the Americans who warned the Europeans that a draconian peace treaty with Germany would breed resentment and lead to a new war. But instead of following the American course of forgiveness, the Europeans demanded their pound of flesh, which set the course for WW II.
After WW II, the Americans singlehandedly prevented starvation in Europe by offering at considerable cost to themselves (25% of the total national budget) the Marshall Plan which saved Europe from destruction caused by its own arrogance and short-sidedness.
Because of their concern for peace in the world, it was Americans who fought for the creation of the United Nations, where arguments among nations could be settled without resort to violence. That this institution hasn't always worked is irrelevant to American leadership in ensuring its creation.
Similarly, starting with Mac Arthur's words of reconciliation at the surrender of the Japanese, instead of pursuing a course of vengeance, America poured billions in aid to the Japanese people, and thereby ensured that a once feared enemy would become a peaceful and prosperous democracy.
In 1961, America was the first nation on earth to establish a publically funded organization (the Peace Corps) devoted to spreading literacy and assistance to the poorest people of the planet.
Every year, American organizations like "Care," "Save the Children," and dozens more like them spend additional billions attempting to provide hope around the world. And there has yet been a worldwide disaster (such as the Indian Ocean tsunami) where American organizations were not center stage offering
help.
You claim Americans don't care. But if that is so, I challenge you to examine the record carefully, and name one other country that has done more for outsiders. Britain? France? China? Please -- get serious. While Europeans were busy gobbling up as much of the planet as possible in their quest for empire, it was the United States that argued for "Self Determination."
Has the US been perfect? Of course not. But once again, name one country that is. Has it made mistakes? You bet. But in the eternal balance of Blessings and Curses, the US has been a far greater blessing to this planet than any other I can name.

Mark...
You live in China. Why are you obsessed with what is happening over here in the United States?
I am not going to answer your little rebuttal questions. You may be able to get others to play your little game but I am not going to.
Why don't I as an American give a damn about the rest of the world? Because of people like you. You are a judgemental, self righteous idiot that has nothing positive to contribute to society. I am tired of the United States coming to the aid of people that live in societies like you do only to be treated like this.
Your country has some of the worst human rights violations in the world yet you are on here belittling the United States, our policies and our citizens. What a friggin hypocrit.
Shove it Mark.
To locksmithite below.... Thank You. It is so rare that we see anyone come to our defense for anything. What you posted here has tears running down my face. We don't expect people to glorify us, we just want to be treated fairly. Thank you so very much..... You made my day.

Silly lad. Americans dont give a damn about the rest of the world because we dont live in the rest of the world. God personally blessed the United States, and because of his blessing we enjoy SUV's top income, million dollar homes, NASCAR, NFL, WWE, Terrifying 4th of July fireworks demonstrations, the best beaches, the finest beers, the fastest cars, and the most beautiful women in the world. We have indoor plumbing, Hollywood, Disneyland, and the biggest and most nuclear weapons in the world. Why should be care about the rest of you?
I wake up every morning and thank God for waking up American. How about you?

This, from a Canadian newspaper, is worth sharing. “America, the Good Neighbor”. The text of a remarkable editorial television broadcast from Toronto, by Gordon Sinclair.
This Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as the most generous and possibly the least appreciated people on all the earth. Germany, Japan, and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy were lifted out of the debris of war by the Americans who poured in billions of dollars and forgave other billions in debts.
None of these countries is today paying even the interest on its remaining debts to the United States. When France was in danger of collapsing in 1956, it was the Americans who propped it up, and their reward was to be insulted and swindled on the streets of Paris. I was there. I saw it.
When earthquakes hit distant cities, it is the Untied States that hurries in to help. This spring, 59 American communities were flattened by tornadoes. Nobody helped. The Marshall Plan and the Truman Policy pumped billions of dollars into discouraged countries. Now newspapers in those countries are writing about the decadent, warmongering Americans
.
I’ld like to see just one of those countries that is gloating over the erosion of the United States dollar build its own airplane. Does any other country in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo Jet, the Lockheed Tri-Star, or the Douglas DC10?
If so, why don’t they fly them? Why do all the International lines except Russia fly American Planes? Why does no other land on earth even consider putting a man or woman on the moon? You talk about Japanese technocracy, and you get radios. You talk about German technocracy, and you get automobiles. You talk about American technocracy, and you find men on the moor – not once, but several times – and safely home again.
You talk about scandals, and the Americans put theirs right in the store window for everybody to look at. Even their draft-dodgers are not pursued and hounded. They are here on our streets, and most of them, unless they are breaking Canadian laws, are getting American dollars from Ma and Pa at home to spend here.
When the railways of France, Germany, and India were breaking down through age, it was the Americans who rebuilt them. When the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them an old caboose. Both are still broke.
I can name you 500 times when the Americans raced to the help of other people in trouble. Can you name me even one time when someone else raced to the Americans in trouble? I don’t think there was outside help even during the San Francisco earthquake.
Now who would blame the United States if they were to say "to hell with the rest of the world"?
Our neighbors have faced it alone, and I’m one Canadian who is * tired of hearing them get kicked around. They will come out of this thing with their flag high. And when they do, they are entitled to thumb their nose at the lands that are gloating over their present troubles. I hope Canada is not one of those.

They can't! Most haven't got passports! They don't even know their own history, let alone what has happened or is happening outside their bubble world. Then they go around threatening and bombing the world and call it 'helping the world'. Unbelievable!
