Eli Roth had read something about people who were willing to die in the Far East . To the "killee" it was completely voluntary and the proceeds would support their families. The "killer" would pay $10,000 to kill them.
He did some research, found it was likely an urban legend, but the idea was so strong he wrote a movie about it.

I believe it is, especially the part on Slovakia being the venue of such hostels. If this weren't true, then Slovakia would be suing the production for this movie. This gives the country a very bad reputation. Since there are no legal moves being made by Slovakia against the movie, then there must be a ring of truth to it.

NO! i dont think any place in Europe has a grudge on the U.S,i bet it was for the marketting......It was the most Sadistic movie ive ever seen and i got scared at the middle not becuz it was scarey but because i found myself smiling.
